HELPER
“May we be united to one another, by the power of love
which the Holy Spirit pours into our hearts.” Pope Francis
Who was Jesus praying for? In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus is praying that the disciples will
stay united. Soon Jesus will return to heaven and he will ask the Father to send the Holy
Spirit to be their helper – to teach them and to be with them always. Ask your child who has
helped them recently. What did that person do that was such a help to your child? You may
want to share an experience of being helped by your children, other people, or directly by
the Holy Spirit, and describe the difference that this help made to your life. Then each of
you talk about an occasion when you went out of your way to help someone.

We are God’s most loved creation and we can be certain God will always help us, and he
wants us to help others too. As a family, discuss and choose special ways in which you
can be helpful to each other in this coming week. Perhaps you can: make your bed and
keep your room tidy; use kind words; set the table and clear the dishes. Is there anyone
who may especially need your help at school or at work, or maybe even someone living
in a far-off place? What could you do to help?
