one of us memories of goodness.” Pope Benedict XVI
Advent helps us get ready for Christmas and reminds us that God
loves us so much that he sent his only Son, Jesus, into our world.
Ask your child what else they know about Advent. What do they like
best about this season which leads up to Christmas? Advent is an
opportunity to be spiritually refreshed and helps us get ready for
Christmas. You may want to share with your child what you know
and like best about the season of Advent.
Advent is a time to make an extra effort to be more loving towards God and
our neighbours. As a family, how can you prepare well through Advent –
to ‘stay awake’, to be ready to welcome Jesus? Perhaps you can: always
try to be fair, honest, generous and ready to go out of our way to help
anyone who is in need; be a peacemaker; put up a crib, Advent wreath
and Advent calendar; make a special effort to let other family members
know how much you love them – through your words and actions.
Dear Lord Jesus, help us to ‘stay awake’ and to be aware of your
presence in the people that we meet in this Advent season. Amen.
